Selena
She broke down barriers within the music industry as a singer, performer and designer. She was a traditional and modern a Mexican-American star who bound together both worlds in a singular way--and delivered incredible Tejano music to a mass crowd. She was a rising star but her sudden death broke it. As is the norm for a gifted, charming and young artist passes away too early, many mourned the potential she was yet to attain. The result is that fans have been inspired over the years to dig in and work harder to ensure her successes will not be forgotten. Her tragic death in a shooting caused a reaction in the Latino community that was similar to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. The most well-known Latino artist across North America, Selena's music has touched the lives of many across cultures. Selena may have been hailed by many as an Latina Madonna, however she's still an excellent character model. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness programs are exemplary.
